· Graduation in Biological Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (UTL), Portugal , 2003.

Activities:

· Collaborator of the Environmental and Ecoprocess Engineering Research Group, IST, UTL, Lisbon , Portugal , working on the European Research Project entitled “Bioproduction”, under the supervision of Prof. M. Manuela R. da Fonseca and Dr Catarina Almeida. Since May 2006.

· Collaborator of the Cell Physiology & NMR Research Group at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), Portugal , integrated in the European Research Project “Decarboxylate”, under the supervision of Prof. Helena Santos and Dr Claudia Sanchez. June 2004 to February 2006

· Volunteer researcher in the Sanitary Engineering Department at Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), under the supervision of Prof José Menaia. April to June 2004.

Area of scientific activity:

·Fermentation technology, bio-production and downstream processing of increased value bio-polymers.

·Development and modelling of fed-batch strategies for increased productivity.

· Acid-induced stress response of lactic bacteria.

Interests:

Large scale biopolymer production from renewable or environmentally undesirable carbon sources.
