Introduction The
Environmental and Ecoprocess Engineering Research Group (ENVERG) of the
Centre for Biological and Chemical Engineering
(CEBQ) aims at the development of clean innovative technologies
for industrial application and industrial pollution control.
R&D in this area at the
Instituto Superior Técnico
(IST) campus started in 1993. The
main objective of the ENVERG is to respond to industrial demand for cleaner
processes and efficient
environmental protection technologies, through the combination of
contract-based process development and of fundamental research into the
biological and chemical phenomena supporting the implemented processes. Major
funding for R&D at the ENVERG comes from industrial contracts,
complemented with national and EC research programme financing.
